Ucluelet and Tofino
Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada, May 16, 2006
UCLUELET
This small town is located south of Pacific Rim National Park, but there certainly are big plans for this town. Outside the downtown area you can see ocean side condos being built and cabin rentals for tourists. They are also advertising the Ucluelet Wild Coast Trail but is not totally complete, which we discovered by the lack of parking available, signs to the trail, and trails to follow. Most of the route is blocked off by "Do not enter" yellow ribbon Never-the-less, the Wild Coast Trail is still worth the drive.
TOFINO
After visiting Tofino all you can think about is surfing and that's how this small town wants to be known. Located north of Pacific Rim National Park, Tofino certainly has more choices for surf shops and whale watching than any other town on the island.
Even though you can find great deal on whale watching expeditions, I don't support this tourist trade because the continual disturbances of the tours prevents the whale from resting and are actually driving them away from the Tofino waters.
