ABOUT GEMMA'S PAINTINGS
Originally I only painted in school, but as
I watched those cheesy landscape drawing classes on TV during my
summer vacations, I began doing some on my own with watercolor.
I started taking painting seriously in high school.

MY ANGEL
This angel painting is influenced
by all the women in my life and the characteristics that are
most impressionable to me.

ANGEL 02
An extension of "My Angel",
I had decided that it would be nice to create a series of these
creatures. Well it only got to two but that was enough to get
it out of my system.

BREAK FREE
Influenced by the situation I was
in at this time in my life, I decided to create a painting that
was to be hung on the ceiling. Braking through your own walls
and boundaries. Now it's has a new trusting owner in Edmonton.

A three hour model study at the University
of Alberta.

An abstraction of two women. Usually
mistaken to be only one women, this painting is the connection
of the female interaction in close relationships.

COLLAGE
A collage of magazine imagery and
then interpreted on canvas, this high realism painting used
a dry brush technique that looks very much like airbrush.

OLD BROKEN IDEAS
Renaissance painting using a limited
pallet and still-life. This painting has placed me in the top
of Alberta's Student Artists of 1995, Edmonton's Nordraft Art
Award of 1995, Maya Reinking Award of 1995 and many full scholarship
art schools in Canada and the United States.

Before entering university, I had
decided that it would be a good idea to create a mural. Something
that was large, monumental, some thing to put up in the school.
